Structure of the support programme

What is Neuro Dynamix?

Neuro Dynamix is a movement-based intervention programme. You may wonder why Neuro Dynamix uses movement as an intervention and not a sensory programme. This is because learning starts with the flow of information from the senses. The beauty of movement is that due to the involvement of the proprioceptors and the vestibular system, it is part of the sensory and the motor systems.

An interruption of the flow of information has a knock-on effect on the learner’s emotional, social and cognitive development and behaviour. Therefore the Neuro Dynamix approach focuses on the learner’s physical development. Once the physical foundation is solid, a learner’s emotions tend to be more stable, their confidence and self-esteem increase and developing writing and reading skills is an achievable reality.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM Neuro Dynamix?

The Neuro Dynamix of WRITING and READING© is a physical development program for individuals, not groups. It is a programme aimed at Grade R and older learners who are not developing as expected for their age and who need ‘developmental catch-up’ through:

  • Reflex inhibition and
  • Targeted activities that speak to their specific developmental needs.

Physical development builds the neuropathways that underpin skills and executive functions.

The activities and resources included in this programme are designed specifically to target areas of the sensory-motor system that are often overlooked but hamper the maturation of a learner’s nervous system (proprioception and the vestibular system). An immature nervous system, which includes the sensory-motor system and the brain, are associated with barriers to physical, emotional, social and cognitive development.

WHAT DOES THE Neuro Dynamix PROGRAMME INCLUDE?

Neuro Dynamix includes a range of resources:

  • A series of videos
  • A manual with links to videos
  • A battery of assessment tools to establish a baseline, plot progress and collect evidence of progress
  • An intervention guide
  • A variety of practical, hands-on resources including:
    • Mind Moves activities
    • Equipment-based gross and fine movement activities.

Mind Moves are physical movements that mimic intrauterine and primitive reflex movements.
The reflexes are natural tools to develop and mature the nervous system.

Mind Moves develop the body.
Neuro Dynamix equipment challenges the body while interacting with the environment.
